Intro
The Spanish particle physics community invests a sizable effort in science outreach and promotion. Most research institutions and universities in this field carry out numerous activities, both at local level and national level. The coordination of national activities is a responsibility of the National Center for Particle, Astroparticle and Nuclear Physics (CPAN) which centralizes and manages outreach initiatives.
Both from CPAN and from the centers themselves, there is a steady participation in all the important European events and activities such as the Science Week, the European Night of Researchers, and various IPPOG masterclasses, as well as other initiatives such as "The CPAN in High Schools” a series of seminars in high schools from which thousands of students throughout Spain benefit every year.

La comunidad española de física de partículas dedica un considerable esfuerzo a la promoción y divulgación de la ciencia. Las numerosas instituciones investigadoras y universidades con actividad en dicho campo realizan numerosas actividades, tanto a nivel local como de forma coordinada a nivel nacional.
Dicha coordinación recae en el Centro Nacional de Física de Partículas, Astropartículas y Nuclear (CPAN) que centraliza y gestiona las iniciativas de divulgación. Tanto desde el CPAN como de los propios centros se participa habitualmente en todos los eventos y actividades europeas más importante como la Semana de la Ciencia, la Noche Europea de los investigadores, y diversas masterclasses IPPOG, así como otras iniciativas propias como “El CPAN en el Instituto” un ciclo de seminarios en institutos de secundaria del que cada año se benefician miles de estudiantes en toda España.

Jesús Puerta-Pelayo
Jesús is a Doctor in Experimental Particle Physics from the Autonomous University of Madrid and a researcher at the CIEMAT-Particle Physics Unit in Madrid. Since 2000 he has been a member of the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) experimental collaboration at CERN's LHC (Large Hadron Collider), one of the two experiments responsible for the discovery of the Higgs Boson in 2012. Jesús participated in the design, construction, installation and commissioning of the CMS central muon detector between 2000 and 2008. Since then he has been part of the research team responsible for the operation and scientific exploitation of CMS. He is also a member since 2008 of the CALICE collaboration dedicated to the design of calorimeters for future collider experiments.
Parallel to his scientific activity, Jesús is an expert in communication, outreach and scientific training. He is the outreach manager of the CIEMAT-FP Unit, outreach coordinator of the CMS muon group, director of the Phy6cool summer school, co-organizer of the Spanish teacher training program at CERN and promoter of many other outreach activities, both at local and national level, collaborating on a regular basis with the National Center for Particle Physics (CPAN). He is also a regular contributor, among others, to the program A Hombros de Gigantes, on Radio Nacional de España, where he is responsible for the specialized section on particle physics.
Jesús es Doctor en Ciencias Físicas por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid e investigador de la Unidad CIEMAT-Física de Partículas en Madrid. Es miembro desde 2000 de la colaboración experimental CMS (Solenoide Compacto de Muones) en el LHC (Gran Colisionador de Hadrones) del CERN, uno de los dos experimentos responsables del descubrimiento del Bosón de Higgs en 2012. Jesús participó en el diseño, construcción, instalación y puesta a punto del detector central de muones de dicho experimento entre los años 2000 y 2008. Desde entonces forma parte del equipo investigador responsable de la operación y explotación científica de CMS. También es miembro desde 2008 de la colaboración CALICE dedicada al diseño de calorímetros para futuros experimentos de colisionadores.
En paralelo a su actividad científica, Jesús es experto en comunicación, divulgación y formación científica. Es responsable de divulgación de la Unidad CIEMAT-FP, coordinador de divulgación del grupo de muones de CMS, director de la escuela de verano Phy6cool, coorganizador del programa de formación de profesores españoles en el CERN y promotor de muchas otras actividades divulgativas, tanto a nivel local como nacional, colaborando de forma regular con el Centro Nacional de Física de Partículas CPAN. También es colaborador habitual entre otros del programa A Hombros de Gigantes, de Radio Nacional de España, donde es responsable de la sección especializada sobre física de partículas.
